Many Very Considerable Appearances Have Been Made Over The Years By Goodyear Tires

By Alexa A. Bartell

An interesting fact to know is that Goodyear Tires are manufactured by the Goodyear Tire And Rubber Company named for Charles Goodyear even though he did not have a direct connection with the company. That may seem a little odd, or confusing until we dig a little deeper to discover more. In 1839 a guy by the name of Charles Goodyear developed vulcanized rubber, inspiring Frank Seiberling who founded the company in 1898 to name it after the inventor of vulcanized rubber. The tires they manufactured very quickly became famous because the vulcanized rubber made them easily detachable and required very little maintenance.

This company is well-known for quality products as it strives to produce the best tires on the road, using its own testing standards that are higher than those issued by the government. Vehicle types that include private passenger vehicles, trucks ATVs and even trailers can all use these quality tires that are made for them. If we take a look at the company history we will see that they are well-known for manufacturing quality tires for more than those types of vehicles, as they have made an impressive appearance at some well-known events.

The first Goodyear Tires were made by their factory in Akron, Ohio in 1898. The things that they specialized in during that time were tires for carriages and bicycles, poker chips and horseshoe pads. Racing tires were supplied to Henry Ford in 1901, and in 1903 the original tubeless automobile tire was patented by them. The first pneumatic aircraft tires were manufactured by them in 1909. In 1911 they made the first airship envelope followed by the 1912 debut of the Goodyear blimp

They were the world's largest rubber company by 1926 and were listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1927 with their initial public offering. A synthetic rubber tire was the first American-made that was created by them in 1937 to be followed in 1947 by nylon tires that were the first of their type. More winning race cars used their brand of racing tires than any other brand over an extended amount of time. Apollo 14 had tires manufactured by them to become the first tires on the moon in the 1970s. They became the exclusive supplier of tires by 1975 for the Indianapolis 500 drivers.

Among the world's largest manufacturers of tires we must also mention the Michelin tires that are produced in an impressive line. This company focuses on all-around excellence providing driver satisfaction that can be experienced on the highways, city streets and even in off-road venues.
