There are numerous religious sites in New Orleans. This town has some extremely unusual religious landmarks as well. Taking a brief look at these different places will maybe encourage you to take a trip to this unimaginable city.
St. Louis Cathedral
This is the oldest cathedral in the United States that's still active. It is located in the back of the historic Jackson Square. The current cathedral is actually the 3rd building to stand in this actual spot. It dates all the way back to 1794. This cathedral is very dramatic looking. Among New Orleans religious landmarks, this is a must see.
Voodoo Spiritual Temple
This is one of the more strange religious sites in New Orleans. It was set up in 1990, and is fashionable with the holiday makers. It is founded upon West African Spiritual practices. The key room in the church contains alters with many offerings on them. The church tries to prove misguidance about Voodoo wrong. They offer many various things for visitors. These are marriages, blessings, bone readings, and even special rituals. It's controlled by the Priestess Miriam who also cells CDs of her different chants.
Saint Ann Shrine
This shrine began as an official activity for the Saint Ann Parish. It commenced in 1902. From the very beginning, it is a place for official celebrations, like wedding. This New Orleans religious landmark was made as a copy of the grotto at Lourdes. On the right outside wall is a tiny statue of the Immaculate Conception. Beneath that's holy water, which visitors collect in bottles. On the left of the cave is a tiny gift shop. The head of the cave is completely open to see the sky. This is a beautiful shrine with a lot of concern for detail.
Saint Joseph Catholic Church
This church was dedicated in 1892. This religious landmark has the longest aisle of any church in New Orleans. It is a very luxurious and gorgeous church. The church is still extraordinarily active in New Orleans. It's a large church, as it can seat as many as 2000 people. The original church that was built wasn't nearly the size it is today.
Saint Roch and the Campo Santo
This New Orleans religious landmark has an exceedingly fascinating history. In 1867, there had been a pandemic and a local priest stated that a prayer to Saint Roch. St. Roch is the patron saint of plaque victims. When everyone survived, a chapel was built to praise it. Visitors can leave presents in a little room off of the alter. These gifts should be gifts of healing, like medical provisions. The collection of gifts that has been left in the little room has been apparently really weird, and occasionally even creepy.
